Prevalence of endometritis and histopathological changes of uterus of slaughtered cows due to gram positive bacteria and possible role of gentamicin

Introduction: Endometritis is a local uterine infection without systemic symptoms that is manifested by the presence of purulent or muco purulent secretions in the uterus. This disease is a risk factor in ovarian cyst formation, anestrus and other genital problems. This disease increases service per conception and thus prolongs calving interval and decreases calving rate and ultimately, these uterine disorders lead to decrease genital function.
Method: In this study, ??? cows with endometritis were selected and evaluated for histopathological and bacterial culture. According to the results of this study, out of ??? samples, ?? samples were reported as endometritis.
Results: ?? samples on Blood agar and ?? samples on Macconkey agar appeared positive. In terms of bacterial contamination, the bacteria found were predominantly Gram-positive. The highest level of contamination was observed in the samples that were simultaneously infected with two strains of S.Epidermidis and S. Aureus. There was a statistically significant difference in the frequency of bacterial strains. Histopathologically, differences in endometrial thickness, extent of endometrial gland scatter, extent of epithelial cells solidarity, endometrial blood vessel frequency and cell density were statistically significant. The blood agar culture was better than Macconkey culture because the high number of Gram-positive samples had grown there. The most effective antibiotics in this study were aerobic bacteria isolated from the uterus, was gentamicin.
