In this experimental study, serologic results and CBC of ostrich infected with Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) and Avian Influenza (AI) H9N2 have investigated and compared. Eight ostrich chicks (one months) were prepared and randomly divided in two equal groups. Group 1 received IBD virus and group 2 received AI (H9N2) virus. In group 1, sera sampling was done on 2 day pre-challenge and on 11, 21 days post-challenge as well as on 2 days pre-challenge and 7 day post-challenge in group 2. The cytological smears were also supplied on 2 days pre-challenge and 3, 11, 21 days post-challenge from group 1 as well as on 2 day pre-challenge and 7 and 18 post-challenge from group 2. The results were evaluated and analyzed by Sigma Stat software. In group 1, antibody titer significantly increased on 21 day post-challenge compared to 2 day prior to challenge and 11 day post-challenge but CBC didn’t show a significant change after and before the challenges. In group 2, antibody titer significantly increased on 7 day post-challenge compared to 2 day prior to challenge but CBC didn’t show a significant change before and after the challenges. The present study showed that Infectious Bursal Disease virus infected the ostrich but didn’t have any effects on CBC. Respectively, HI and ELISA testes are useful techniques for detection of IBD and AI antibody after challenges in ostrich.
