Acute phase proteins (APPs) are a group of blood proteins primarily synthesized in the liver. Poultry respiratory diseases are one of the main causes of mortality and economic losses in the poultry industry. Antibiotics and symptom relieving agents are widely prescribed to control the condition. In this experimental study, the effect of different medicaments, including, Mentofin®, Aromex® and Biobron® alone (experiment ?) or in combination with antibiotics (experiment ?) on some APPs such as haptoglobin, serum amyloid A, ovotransferrin, adenosine deaminase, total serum protein, albumin and sialic acid (lipid- and protein- bound sialic acids) of viral respiratory complex (H?N? AIV+IBV) of broilers was investigated. Significant increase in serum concentrations of haptoglobin, serum amyloid A, ovotransferrin, sialic acid and adenosine deaminase were observed on days’ post infection in challenged groups. In experiment ?, treatments did not have significant effect on level of serum APPs in comparison with positive control group. In experiment ?, combination treatment by enrofloxacin did not have any significant effect on serum AAPs concentration. Overall, our results indicated that despite of widespread using of herbal essential oils on treatment of respiratory disease complexes due to infectious bronchitis and influenza viruses, did not have significant effect on measured APPs. In conclusion apparently these herbal medicines alone or in combination with enrofloxacin could not affect the pathogenesis pattern of the disease in relation to APPs production.
